To assign or not to assign

So I was deadset on not assigning tables for the wedding.  It felt like a giant stressor so close to the end, and I just didn’t want to do that to myself.  But then I read this post on the weddingbee boards and I started to second guess myself.  My problem with assigning tables is if people don’t come to the wedding that RSVP’d, the people at that table might feel shunned.  And what if people just ignore the assignments anyway?  And what if I can’t figure out who should sit together?  OR worse, what if I forget to assign a seat to someone?

Now, I’ve been to weddings where seating is assigned and weddings where it isn’t.  I’ve never felt like I was scrambling when it wasn’t assigned, nor did I feel like I had to “mark” my table.  I’m just so torn.

On a positive note, there are so many adorable ways to personalize the name cards and table numbers, I did feel sad at one point that I wouldn’t be taking on that task.  Here are some ideas that I love:

Yes, they are gorgeous, but is it worth it?  Should I take on this task?  What do you think hive?  What’s been your experience with and without assigning tables?

Wedding Signage!

Yay!! This past weekend Mr. Fro Yo and I went to home depot and picked up some materials to get started on our wedding signs. Here’s what we got:

2 pieces of wood for a fence ($1.79 each)
a can of white paint ($9)
a foam paint brush (59 cents), and
wooden stakes ($6 for 12, we didn’t need that many but couldn’t find fewer that were the right size).

So we got to work.  Mr. Fro Yo measured the boards:

and then sawed them in half:

As soon as they were ready, I started painting:

My first finished sign:

paint2(I don’t know what I’m doing in this picture, I think saying photobooth?)

I like that these don’t have to be perfect, and in fact they look better to me if they have a little character (i.e. similar to a project a child might create).  I can’t wait to make the others too!  Did you take on making signage for your wedding?

I think I broke my finger

Oh no!!  Today we were taking doggie fro yo and a doggie friend for a walk.  Unfortunately, the doggie friend got excited and wanted to run after a small animal, thus yanking me and my finger forward.

The culprits:

mandk(doggie friend on left, doggie fro yo on right)

Now, I wouldn’t be blogging about this (ps I’m blogging like I don’t know how to type, one finger at a time when using my left hand) if it wasn’t wedding related.  It’s on my left hand, and it’s my ring finger.  NOOO.  Well, now I can’t get my ring on my finger.

I hope the swelling goes down soon!  I feel totally naked without my ring!  Did any of you face injuries, or other obstacles that prevented you from wearing your engagement ring?

What?! No Hand Cancel?

This weekend Mr. Fro Yo and I went to the post office to send out our save the dates. I finally had an opportunity to go to the post office, and I waited diligently in line with my bag of save the dates. Screaming children ran around, but I kept a smile on my face because this was a huge step in inviting my guests, and I was so excited. Finally it was my turn. I got to the counter and happily started taking out my save the dates and informed the postal worker that I would like to have these hand cancelled.

Postal worker did not have a smile on her face and flatly told me that they don’t hand cancel.  I politely asked if it was just this post office, or if it was all post offices in Austin.  She said it’s all of them, and then called the next person in line.  Wow.

Now I don’t think that my save the dates will get damaged per se, but the picture magnet is on the side of the stamp in the envelope and I just didn’t want them to arrive damaged in any way.

Such a disappointment!  Did any of you have struggles with the post office during the wedding process?

Hang some pictures

photoRemember the photobooth we’re going to have at the wedding?  Well, I kept trying to think of ways to display the pictures at the wedding.  We aren’t using the photos as our guestbook, and I didn’t want them scattered all over because I thought they might get lost.  So then it hit me, why not use clothespins?

There are some gorgeous clothespins, like these:

But I think I might just go the traditional route with some regular wooden clothespins, and twine, like this (but imagine photobooth pictures instead of polaroids):

So what do you think?  Do you think that will look cute?  Do you have any other suggestions for how to hang our photobooth photos?

Ab Ripper

Ouch, that’s all I have to say.  Mr. Fro Yo and I have stated doing the ab ripper, which is one of the exercises in the P90X group.  I’m pretty sure the “p” stands for painful.  We do it every other day for about 15-20 minutes and the first week I was so sore I thought people at work were going to ask me what was wrong with me because of the way I was walking.  That’s right, it doesn’t just impact your abs, it also works on your hip flexors.

So why am I subjecting myself to this every other day?  Well, I despise my stomach.  I always have.  Bikini shopping and I hate each other.  For once in my life I would like to put on a bathing suit and not cringe.  And, it’s not like I haven’t tried the other equipment, I have it just hasn’t worked.  Remember this guy:

And this one?

abbelt(Ok, I didn’t really try this, but I thought I should include it)

Well neither worked, it was time to get serious.  The ab ripper consists of 11 different ab exercises and we do as many as we can of each, rest for about 30 seconds and then go right into the next one.  Want to see some action photos?

It’s been so great to have Mr. Fro Yo to motivate me.  Does your fiance help keep you motivated to work out?

Rehearsal dinner invites

I know I still have a considerable amount of time before I need to consider our rehearsal dinner invites, but I always hear about brides stressing at the last minute and wishing they started some of their projects earlier.  So why not the rehearsal dinner invites?  I mean, it’s not like I have no idea what I’m doing for our actual wedding invites (actually, I have no idea what I’m doing, I’ve changed my mind a thousand times, and I guess I’m just trying to put off thinking about it. Ahh, you like that denial?).  So what’s my inspiration for the rehearsal invites:

rehearsal invite

giving-tree-save-the-date-wedding-announcement-for-fall (Ok, I know that’s for a save the date, but the template is free here, and I could update it to make it suitable for a rehearsal dinner)

But maybe instead of lantern lights on the 3rd one, I could use an image with banners (because our rehearsal dinner is at a mexican restaurant) like this:

I’m thinking a little from number one and a little from number three.  I love that dot font from the first one and want to try to incorporate it.  So what do you think??  Which would you choose and which do you think I can actually pull off?
